P.E. Mathew & Co., a Colombo based firm of chartered accountants established in September 1958 celebrated its 60th anniversary in a simple yet charming fashion at its Head Office at No 94, York Street, Colombo .
R A Jayaweera, Senior Partner of P.E. Mathew & Co. stated that P.E. Mathew founded the company in 1958 and that time there were only very few chartered accountants in Sri Lanka and Mathew was the 130th member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (then Ceylon).
Accounting and Management education was not that popular at that time and only a very few had access to accounting education. It was in this context that Mathew started Colombo Management Centre to conduct courses on accounting, financial management and taxation. Professionals and academics from India had come as visiting lecturers.
Building up a professional practice was no easy task. It takes years and years. It was courage, will-power, confidence and discipline that made the company a success story and by the time of his death in 1985 P.E. Mathew & Col has grown into a well accepted firm of chartered accountants at national level.
Since 1985 it was R A Jayaweera who steered the company to even greater heights. In 2014 it joined Geneva Group International, a leading global alliance of independent professional firms.
Company is now a provider of multidisciplinary services based on quality and trust with competency for midsize enterprises and the people who drive them. Mathew & Co. is into statutory auditing, internal auditing, compliance reporting, business process outsourcing, taxation, management accounting, secretarial services and deals with a wide range of clients, local and foreign.
